WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – Watertown police are investigating the death of a 2-year-old girl, who died Wednesday morning.
Police were at Eastbrook Apartments at 1708 Ohio Street, a Watertown Housing Authority property off Eastern Boulevard, on Thursday. The apartments used to be known as East Hills Apartments.
Police were seen going in and out of apartment 117.
Police said they launched their investigation after they received a report shortly before noon on Wednesday from Samaritan Medical Center that a 2-year-old patient had died.
According to police, the toddler had been brought to the hospital in a personal vehicle because she was having trouble breathing. They said she arrived at SMC at 10:47 a.m.
Police said an autopsy was performed, but declined to comment on the girl’s cause of death.
Police are asking people with information to contact them at 315-786-2601 and ask for Det. S. Freeman.
Neighbors have told 7 News reporter Lexi Bruening that they’re heartbroken about the toddler’s death.
They also said they had concerns about the way the adults in the toddler’s household treated the youngsters living there and that the home was dirty.
They said Child Protective Services was involved. Police have not confirmed the information from neighbors. The Department of Social Services commissioner said she was unable to comment.
