The Teen Artist Council invites the community to a free afternoon of art, music, creativity, and connection at the upcoming Art Happening on Saturday, June 20th from 1 – 4 PM in the courtyard at the Pelham Art Center. Open to the public and designed for all ages, this vibrant community celebration will showcase local artistic talent while offering hands-on opportunities for everyone to participate.

Led and organized entirely by the Teen Artist Council, the event will feature live music by local musicians, local art vendors, interactive art-making stations, and collaborative public art projects. “The Art Happening is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our community while empowering local teenagers to lead, create, and produce an engaging event that welcomes and inspires everyone,” said Fiona Agababian, Gallery and Teen Programs Coordinator.

Visitors can browse and support local artists and vendors, including Sakura Abdel-Rahman and Kass Gray, while enjoying a variety of free creative experiences. Activity stations will include paint-your-own plant pots, keychain and bracelet making, button making, and speed-drawn portraits by Ivy Immediato.

A centerpiece of the event will be a large-scale community art installation designed by Teen Artist Council intern Shannon Ava Whitney. The project invites participants to paint individual rocks in designated colors, with each rock representing a pixel within Whitney’s original design. Together, these painted rocks will form an artwork installed as a rock garden at the front entrance of the Art Center.

“Art Happening is the crown jewel of the Teen Artist Council’s programming because they truly run the show,” said Nancy Mazzei, Interim Executive Director. “This year, the Council created an exciting agenda featuring hands-on art-making, live music, local vendors, and even poetry. I was especially impressed that they recognized the success of our Portrait Parade event and incorporated that activity into Art Happening. Their creativity, leadership, and dedication continue to make this event a community favorite. I would also like to extend special thanks to Fiona, who works tirelessly behind the scenes to help make these events possible.” 

The event is free and open to the public. Families, friends, artists, and community members of all ages are encouraged to attend.
