Generations of fans in Brooklyn erupted with joy, tears and reverly after the New York Knicks became NBA champions after winning Game 5 of the NBA Finals, 94-90 in San Antonio on Saturday.
Each game during the finals seemed like an impossible comeback win and the build-up to this moment was felt across the borough with numerous watch parties on the sidewalks, parks and bars.
Shortly after the team’s first championship win since 1973, Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that New York City will host a ticker-tape parade and City Hall ceremony honoring the team and awarding Keys to the City on June 18. The parade will start at 10:00am by Battery Park and travel north along Broadway through the Canyon of Heroes before concluding at City Hall.
