Rounding out the list of royal invitees were King Philippe of Belgium, the newly crowned Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg, and Prince Theyazin, the Crown Prince of Oman. The President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, was also in attendance, as was Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, the President of Egypt, and his wife, Entissar Al-Sisi.

Located in the middle of the desert, the building of the Egyptian Grand Museum required the excavation of thousands of tonnes of sand, and, given its position near the Great Pyramids, the architects had to be certain that they were not building on any potential ancient relics. No wonder, then, that after all that hard work and preparation, the Museum was officially opened in the presence of royalty – though, with its celebration of all things ancient Egypt, monarchs probably felt right at home alongside the legacy of the pharaohs.
