The 2026 Kids Count Data Book indicates that New York state ranks 30th in the nation when it comes to overall child health.
The state ranks 46th in the nation when it comes to the number of children in families on public assistance, and 18% of kids in the state live in poverty despite a law signed in 2021 that mandates a 50% reduction in the state’s child poverty rate over the next 10 years.
Kate Breslin, president and CEO of the Schuyler Center for Analysis and Advocacy, discussed the data from this year’s Kids Count analysis with Capital Tonight’s Susan Arbetter.
