Manhattan Walgreens victimized in gift-card scam

MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) – Two businesses in Manhattan were scammed out of more than $3,000 worth of gift cards in a pair of incidents that were reported on Tuesday night, officials said.

• The first incident was reported at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday at the Walgreens store located at 325 Bluemont Ave.

In that case, Riley County police filed a report of theft by deception when two unknown women scammed an employee into loading gift cards without payment.

The total estimated loss associated with this case was listed at $1,596.95.

• The second case was reported around 8:09 p.m. Tuesday at the Walgreens store at 2719 Anderson Ave.

Riley County police officers filed a report of theft by deception when it was reported that two unknown females scammed an employee into loading gift cards without payment.

The total estimated loss associated with this case is $1,557.20.

There were no immediate reports of arrests, and additional information wasn’t available on Wednesday morning.
