DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — IN HONOR OF Caribbean Heritage Month, Kings County Supreme Court, Criminal Term, will host “Honoring Our Past, Transforming Our Present, and Claiming Our Future” on Thursday. The program, which will take place at 320 Jay St. at 1:15 p.m., will honor Judge Sandra E. Roper.
Roper, a civil rights lawyer and judge serving in the Civil Court of Kings County, is a prominent figure in Brooklyn’s legal community. Her career spans decades in both criminal and civil court. Roper was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1988 after graduating from Brooklyn Law School. She began her legal career as a civil rights attorney, focusing on advocacy and justice issues in the community.
Caribbean Heritage Month was officially recognized in the U.S. in 2006. The month celebrates the rich cultural heritage, history and contributions of Caribbean Americans, highlighting the influence of Caribbean culture on American society, including music, cuisine, art and community traditions. The observance also educates the public about the historical and ongoing impact of Caribbean immigrants in the U.S.
