Nearly 1.2 million people took part in early voting for the 2025 general elections in New York state, according to state Board of Elections numbers released Monday.

A total of 1,187,545 state residents voted early between Oct. 25 and Nov. 2. The highest turnout day was the last day, on Sunday, Nov. 2 with 222,901 votes cast.

About 735,317 early votes came from New York City voters, who are deciding the next mayor there in a high-profile race watched nationally. Outside of the city, 452,228 early votes were cast.

In upstate’s more populous counties, 37,170 people voted early in Erie County; 31,174 voted early in Monroe County; 15,766 voted early in Albany County; and 17,218 voted early in Onondaga County.

This year’s total is more than those who voted early in the last off-year election in 2023, when more than 231,000 people voted early during the entire window it was available.

Early voting first came into practice in New York in 2019.

Voters can still cast ballots on Election Day, which is Tuesday. Polls are open across New York from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Spectrum News 1 will have full election coverage beginning at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
