ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A New York man is facing federal charges for allegedly cyberstalking a Georgia college student last year.
Between January and March 2025, Anthony Belford created fake social media and email accounts “to harass, intimidate, and cause substantial emotional distress” to the student, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia said Thursday.
Belford, 21, is accused of creating fake social media accounts that appeared to belong to the victim, then using those accounts to distribute AI-generated nude images of them, according to prosecutors.
Belford also allegedly made the victim appear racist by posing as them through the fake social media accounts and sending “racist and derogatory” messages to student groups at the college.
“To amplify the impact of his campaign to cause the victim substantial emotional distress,” Belford also is accused of using “spoofed accounts on an online forum to direct community members to the fake information he disseminated through other social media platforms.”
On June 3, a federal grand jury indicted Belford on one count of cyberstalking. He appeared in federal court on June 10.
Prosecutors did not specify the college the victim attended.
