New Yorkers taking Paid Family Leave will see a boost in benefits starting January 1, 2026, the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board announced. The total maximum benefit will rise to $14,742, up more than $614 from 2025.

Paid Family Leave lets eligible employees take up to 12 weeks of job-protected, paid time off to bond with a new child, care for a family member with a serious health condition, or assist loved ones when a family member is deployed on active military duty.

“For the ninth year and counting, hard-working New Yorkers don’t have to sacrifice financial security to be there for family,” said Freida D. Foster, Chair of the Workers’ Compensation Board. “No one should have to choose between a paycheck and caring for a loved one.”

Employees on Paid Family Leave receive 67% of their average weekly wage, up to 67% of the New York State Average Weekly Wage, which will be $1,833.63 in 2026. That makes the maximum weekly benefit $1,228.53, with a total possible benefit of $14,742.36 for the full 12 weeks.

To fund the program, employees will contribute 0.432% of their gross wages per pay period, capped at $411.91 annually. Those earning less than the state average will contribute proportionally less.

This increase ensures that New Yorkers can continue to care for family members without worrying about losing income.
