STATEN ISLAND, NY — Three Staten Island organizations have joined forces to launch their first annual holiday food drive aimed at providing complete Thanksgiving meals to local families in need.

The Community Council of the 122nd Precinct, the Verrazano Kiwanis Club, and Dapper Cats Barber Shop are collaborating on the initiative, which will culminate with meal distributions the week of Thanksgiving.

Organizers are requesting donations of non-perishable food items including canned goods, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, rice, noodles, condiments, salad dressing, sugar, sauce, gravy, cooking oils, beverages, snacks, and baking supplies.

“Every year we try to feed families on Staten Island who are less fortunate. We will be supplying them with a full Thanksgiving meal,” said Chris, one of the organizers. “Things are not easy now for some families, so we are trying to ease the stress. Growing up, Thanksgiving was always my favorite holiday. My grandparents always made it special for us, and we want to bring that feeling to others.”

Donations can be dropped off at three locations: Dapper Cats Barber Shop at 4011 Hylan Blvd., Community Council House at 3665 Hylan Blvd (between Keegans and Fieldway Aves), and A List Janitorial Supplies at 205 Industrial Loop.

As an added incentive, those who donate at Dapper Cats Barber Shop will receive 10 petcent off a haircut.
