1. More than 170,000 New Yorkers cast ballots during early voting
In total, 172,743 check-ins were recorded during the early voting period between June 13 and June 21.
Polls will reopen on Tuesday for New York’s primary. Voters are selecting candidates for Congress, New York state comptroller, state Senate, state Assembly and other offices.
2. Fire destroys historic Bushwick church
On Friday afternoon, smoke and fire engulfed the South Bushwick Reformed Church, something people could see for miles.
Founded in the mid-1800s, the church traces its roots to one of Brooklyn’s oldest congregations dating back to the mid-1600s. The loss is especially painful for preservationists and congregants who spent years trying to save the landmark after its steeple was damaged during Hurricane Isaias in 2020.
3. Man falls to his death during rock concert at Madison Square Garden
A 51-year-old Connecticut man fell to his death from an upper deck of Madison Square Garden during a concert on Saturday night, police said.
Officers responding to a 911 call around 9:51 p.m. found the man unconscious and unresponsive with injuries indicating a fall from an “elevated position,” New York City police said.
