A fire at the Knights Inn in Endwell on Monday has resulted in “multiple fatalities,” according to New York State Police.
Calls came into the Broome County 911 Center around 6 a.m. Monday, reporting a fire at the East Main Street hotel and prompting a response by Endwell fire crews. The State Police say those firefighters found “heavy black smoke in the front of the building and flames showing from the rear of the building. The fire spread rapidly.”
In all, State Police say 10 fire crews responded, as well as four ambulance companies. They say at least two deaths have been confirmed and “numerous residents” are displaced, with two people hospitalized at nearby Wilson Medical Center.
Recently, a Spectrum News 1 review found that the hotel was one of three in Broome County to have families living next door to registered level-two and level-three sex offenders. It was also confirmed to be used by the county’s Department of Social Services for temporary housing for families.
