Drivers across New York are seeing a slight break at the pump to start November, with average gas prices ticking down for the second straight week.
According to AAA Western and Central New York, the state average for regular gas is $3.10 per gallon, down one cent from last Monday and nine cents lower than this time last year, when the average stood at $3.19.
Across the Finger Lakes and Central New York regions, prices are mostly flat or slightly lower:
Batavia: $3.12 (no change)
Buffalo: $3.15 (down 1 cent)
Elmira: $2.97 (down 1 cent)
Ithaca: $3.20 (up 1 cent)
Rochester: $3.16 (no change)
Rome: $3.12 (down 1 cent)
Syracuse: $3.05 (down 1 cent)
Watertown: $3.11 (down 1 cent)
The national average currently sits at $3.04 per gallon, also down a penny from last week and six cents cheaper than a year ago.
AAA notes that prices have remained relatively steady in recent weeks due to higher supply and lower demand, a trend that could continue through the Thanksgiving travel period. Oil is currently trading between $61 and $65 per barrel, helping to keep pump prices in check.
Meanwhile, diesel prices have remained stable, with the national average at $3.68 per gallon and the New York average at $3.88, both up just a penny or two from last week.
Despite minor regional fluctuations, New York drivers are paying less than they were a month ago — a welcome trend as the holiday travel season approaches.
