SOUTHERN TIER, N.Y. (WBNG) — Democrats and Republicans in the Southern Tier were out on Tuesday, making selections for who they want to see representing their party in the 2026 midterm elections.
Democratic voters in Broome County were out to pick the party’s successor for longtime Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo’s seat in the 123rd District. They had a choice between Dan Livingston and Dan Norton; Norton was endorsed by many local democrats, including Assemblywoman Lupardo and State Senator Lea Webb. On the other hand, Livingston secured a large endorsement from Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.
Republicans voting in New York Congressional District 19 will have choices to make about who they want to see go up against Congressman Josh Riley.
New York State Senator Peter Oberacker will go up against Alex Portelli. Oberacker is currently holding a seat in state office for New York’s 51st Senate District.
Residents in the 51st district will be choosing a replacement for Oberacker, considering he is running for Congress. Those voters have a choice between Terry Bernardo and Christopher Tague.
In Tioga County, where voters fall under New York’s 23rd Congressional District, Democratic voters have a choice between Kevin Stocker and Aaron Gies to see who will go up against incumbent Congressman Nick Langworthy in November.
