Gary, who opened the popular Rockaway eatery with his wife, Joan, in 1989, was beloved in the community, donating food to so many worthy causes over the years, especially after Superstorm Sandy.

On Facebook, local sommunity advocate Ozzie Edwards posted, “This one hurts. R.I.P. Gary Robinson (Goody’s BBQ Chicken & Ribs). Thank you for the great encouragement and conversations over the years, and the love you have for the community you serve. Thank you for trying to teach me golf and for just being a great human being. My family’s condolences go out to Gary Robinson’s family.”

Outside the restaurant on Amstel Boulevard, the family posted a sign, “Thank you to our wonderful community for your condolences. As we take this time to honor Gary, Goody’s will be closed until further notice.” There was also another sign that said, “Check back for memorial details”

Everyone here at The Wave sends our sincerest condolences to Joan and the rest of Gary’s family.
