“I have some very sad news to share one of our 9th grade students, Miss Jounir Badawy passed away this weekend. The death of someone so young and vibrant is incomprehensible especially when it is so sudden,” Niesz wrote yesterday in a letter to Bayonne students, staff, and faculty.
“The entire district sends their deepest sympathies, thought and prayers to the family of Jounir. May her family, friends, and classmates find strength, comfort, and healing in the days ahead. If anyone feels the need to speak with someone about this tragedy please know that our school counselors are always available for students and staff.”
He also provided the link to the GoFundMe page, as well as noting that Badawy’s wake will be St. Abanoub & St. Antonious Coptic Orthodox Church, located at 1325 John F. Kennedy Blvd., from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. this evening.
“Help family with funeral costs for 15 year old Bayonne High School student, Jounir Badawy who passed away suddenly on 6/19/26,” the GoFundMe page description, started by Bassem Badawy says.
As of Wednesday at 12:46 p.m., they are nearly halfway towards their goal of $55,000, raising $25,805 from 345 different donors.
