MECHANICVILLE, N.Y. (WCAX) – Police have released the names of six people who were found dead in a home in Northern New York, and four of them were children.
The bodies were found Tuesday evening at a residence in Mechanicville. That’s in Saratoga County.
Police were called to the home of Amy Steadman on Harris Avenue for a welfare check after neighbors said they hadn’t heard from the family in about two weeks.
Inside, they found the six people dead: Steadman, 64; Sarah Myers, 44; Harper Harmon, 13; Hudson Harmon, 11; Gavin Harmon, 10; and Gracelynn Harmon, 10.
Investigators say Steadman was Myers’ mother and the children’s grandmother. They say Myers and her children lived in the same apartment complex, but not with Steadman.
Neighbor Amanda Gary told our sister station WRGB the loss was heartbreaking, especially as a parent.
“Very upsetting. It’s sorry, it’s just having a, a little guy and knowing that there’s four little babies that are no longer with us, it’s very upsetting,” she said.
Police say there is no evidence anyone outside the group was involved in the deaths, and there is no known threat to the public.
They say autopsies are underway and the investigation continues.
