BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — A DAY FULL OF LIVE music and dance performances, a community blood drive, kids activities and outdoor dining are some of the highlights of the final, blowout Montague Open Streets event of the spring/summer season this Sunday in Brooklyn Heights. The party will take place on a car-free Montague Street between Clinton and Hicks streets.
The community blood drive, in partnership with New York Blood Center and St. Ann’s Church, kicks off at 11 a.m. and runs through 5 p.m. Entertainment starts at noon and includes McManus Irish Dance’s famous step dancing; Shinbone Alley Stilt Band’s high-rise brass parade; popular singer-songwriters Hillary Powell (Americana) and Podge Lane from Ireland. The entertainment closes at 4 p.m. with the local teenage rock JAW Band.
Also on the street: festival glam from City Chemist; free kids’ art, giant street chess and other games; golf swing help. Food and outdoor dining will be served at Montague restaurants, and Chama Mama will offer free Georgian food samples and homemade lemonade.
The event is sponsored by the Montague BID in partnership with the Brooklyn Heights Association and New York City’s Department of Transportation. Montague Open Streets will return in the fall.
