Free Fishing Day

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) — New Yorkers will be able to fish for free on June 27 and June 28.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced that the fishing license requirement will be waived for freshwater fishing on these dates as part of the annual Free Fishing Days program.

The program, which started in 1991, gives people a chance to try freshwater fishing at no cost and encourages support for conservation through license purchases.

Additional Free Fishing Days in 2026 are scheduled for Sept. 26 and Nov. 11.
