In the Adirondack High Peaks on Saturday, the sun will rise at 5:14 am and set at 8:43 pm. Tonight will be the latest sunset of the year.
There is a chance of rain and thunderstorms through Saturday, though the forecast for Sunday is looking more pleasant. High peaks summit temperatures are expected to be in the mid-50s through the weekend.
Be prepared for rain and muddy trail conditions. Some waters will rise, but crossings shouldn’t be a problem this weekend, except perhaps in isolated areas under thunderstorms.
Remember to never be above tree line or on open water when you hear thunder.
Waters are running between a bit below normal to a bit above normal for this time of year. At North Creek, the Hudson River is forecast to be at about 3.5 feet through the weekend. The Raquette River at Piercefield is expected to be at about 6 feet.
Lake Champlain has risen to about 97 feet, and water temperatures there remain in mid- to upper-60s. Mirror Lake water temperature is about 70 degrees. It’s free fishing weekend in New York State.
Expect popular trailheads, camp sites, boat launches, and parking areas to be busy this weekend and next due to the upcoming July 4th weekend.
In the High Peaks Wilderness, a stringer is broken on the bridge over the Opalescent River that leads to the Feldspar Lean-To, off the southern end of the Lake Arnold Trail.
Use caution on the bridge. DEC is planning its replacement.
