SAUGERTIES, N.Y. — A truckload of garbage spilled into the truck parking lot of the Malden Service Area on the state thruway after the driver lost control of a tractor-trailer and overturned, state police said Friday.
Shortly before 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, troopers assigned to the thruway responded to the Malden Service Area after a 2016 Freightliner driven by Michelle Paulino Rosario, 35, of Kearny, New Jersey, overturned.
Rosario lost control while entering the service area spilling a load of refuse into the parking lot, police said, adding that speed “appeared to be a contributing factor in the crash.”
Rosario was removed from the vehicle by fire and EMS personnel and taken to HealthAlliance Hospital in Kingston with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The incident took place in the truck parking lot, and no lanes were closed or traffic obstructed in or out of the service area. The vehicle was towed, and all debris was cleared by Thruway personnel, police said.
Rosario was issued citations for vehicle and traffic law violations and is due in Saugerties Town Court at a later date.
