STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A fire along the waterfront on Richmond Terrace in Port Richmond prompted a large FDNY response on Friday morning.
The blaze was reported just after 10 a.m. at 2015 Richmond Terrace, near Park Avenue, according to a statement by the FDNY. The address provided by the Fire Department is a shipyard.
A source at the scene said an acetylene torch caught fire.

Crews had to wait for the leaking tank to empty before they could clear the area, an FDNY official said.
Acetylene is a flammable gas commonly used in welding and metal-cutting torches. It’s stored under pressure in tanks and burns at extremely high temperatures when ignited.
Because of its volatility, firefighters cannot simply extinguish an acetylene fire if gas is still escaping.
Twenty-one units, including 79 FDNY and EMS personnel responded and brought the matter under control at 11:23 a.m., the FDNY said.
2nd shipyard fire
This marks the second time in a little over a month a fire at a shipyard on Richmond Terrace prompted an FDNY response.
On May 22, one civilian was killed and two firefighters were seriously injured in a fire and explosion in a metal barge at 3075 Richmond Terrace in Mariners Harbor.
