Montgomery County is getting $1.5 million in federal dollars to help with clean-up efforts at local brownfield sites.
The Environmental Protection Agency says those are areas where pollution may cause issues with future development.
The Montgomery County Business Development Center says the money will go towards things like developing clean-up plans.
The sites involved include a long-abandoned industrial property in St. Johnsville, an abandoned property once used for cheese production in Nelliston and a former carpet mill in Amsterdam.
“Brownfield redevelopment is one of the most effective tools we have for strengthening our communities while protecting our agricultural land and open space,” Montgomery County Executive Pete Vroman said in a statement. “This grant gives us the opportunity to identify redevelopment-ready properties, reduce uncertainty for future investment, and position these sites for productive new uses that will benefit our residents and local economy for years to come.”
