The Kati Roll Company, a popular New York-based Indian fast-casual chain, will open its first New Jersey location on July 1.
The restaurant will be located in Jersey City’s Journal Square neighborhood, an area noted for its authentic Indian cuisine.
Kati Roll is known for its Kolkata-style street food and centers on kati rolls, a traditional Indian street food consisting of grilled fillings wrapped in roti or paratha.
Signature offerings include the Achari Paneer Roll, made with spiced Indian cheese; the Unda Chicken Tikka Roll, featuring marinated chicken and egg; and the Shami Kabab Roll, with minced lamb and lentils.
In addition to rolls, the restaurant will offer rice and salad bowls, including steak tikka served over biryani rice, spiced chickpeas, and grilled paneer.
Dishes are paired with sides such as spicy mashed potatoes, chutneys and yogurt-based sauces. All spices are freshly ground and breads are made on site.

The Kati Roll Company was founded in 2002 in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village by Payal Saha. It has since expanded to multiple locations in New York City, as well as outposts in Texas and London.
The Jersey City opening is part of a broader expansion, with additional locations planned in New Jersey and Long Island later this year.
Saha said the move was driven by demand from customers in New Jersey.
“I started this because I missed the kati rolls I grew up eating in Kolkata — I thought if I missed them this much, other people must too,” Saha said. “New Jersey customers have been crossing the river to find us for years. It felt right to finally come to them.”
Executive Chef Anil Bathwal said the brand emphasizes fresh ingredients and traditional preparation methods, with fillings marinated daily and no prepackaged sauces.
“Indian cuisine is complex — authentic flavors don’t come easy,” Bathwal said. “Making fresh Indian food with real ingredients and real recipes, while scaling a brand, is genuinely hard.”
The Jersey City location will also feature a custom mural reflecting the surrounding community, part of a design approach the company uses across its restaurants.
The restaurant at 924 Bergen Ave. will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m.
