With a lot of joy and a lot of pride on display, New Yorkers marched down Fifth Avenue for the NYC Pride March.

The theme this year was “For All of Us.”

“So that comes from the immortal words of Marsha P. Johnson, who said, ‘No pride for some of us without liberation for all of us.'” And look at us. We’ve got the entire queer community coming out and saying, ‘We’re here, we’re queer, we’re trans, we’re not going anywhere,” said Christ Piedmont, the media director for NYC Pride.

The grand marshals for the march were a group of LGBTQIA+ change makers: Dominique Jackson, Peppermint, Bernie Wagenblast, Bowen Yang, and Gays Against Guns

NYC pride is the world’s largest and longest-running LGBTQIA+ demonstration

Three of the five grand marshals for the march are trans women. Dominique Jackson, Peppermint, Bernie Wagenblast, Bowen Yang and Gays Against Guns were selected as grand marshals for blazing trails and opening doors in entertainment, media and advocacy.

Gays Against Guns was founded in 2016 after the Pulse Nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida, the deadliest incident of violence against LGBTQ people in U.S. History.

“Walking with Gays Against Guns who has got an homage to the 49 victims of the pulse nightclub shooting watching them hold space for those individuals that we lost 10 years ago and those victims of gun violence you could hear the crowd stop every time they walked by,” Piedmont said.

Several elected officials, like Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Gov. Kathy Hochul, marched too. And some who came from a lot farther away, like Jennifer Portano from Tybee Island, Georgia, who first heard about NYC Pride from her son.

“He said, ‘Mom, you need to come here next year,'” Portano said.

She’s been to pride celebrations before, but not one like this.

“It just fills my heart, and it inspires me to make our pride in Savannah, Georgia bigger,” Portano said.

Bert and his brother came all the way from central New York.

“I’ve been planning on coming to NYC Pride for like three years now and I just haven’t been able to and so this year I came with my brother and wooh, it’s everything,” said Bert Pons.
