A Lower Manhattan hotel was evacuated Monday after bear spray was released during an argument, according to police.
Authorities responded to the Doubletree on Stone Street, between Broad and Whitehall streets, after getting reports of noxious fumes around 8:15 a.m. The evacuation was ordered after first responders arrived.
Chopper 4 showed a heavy emergency presence at the scene. The NYPD says the irritant was sprayed during a dispute in the hotel, though it wasn’t clear where in the hotel it happened.
Emergency crews were evaluating an unknown number of patients at the scene.
The NYPD and its Emergency Services Unit were on the scene. Operations were ongoing into mid-morning.
The investigation is ongoing.
Due to police activity, please avoid the vicinity of Broadway and Stone Street in lower Manhattan.
