After weeks of increasing pressure from his own family, King Charles finally realized “the problem was not going to disappear.” At last, the king faced “the Andrew problem” head on and took action against his brother, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
In addition, Queen Camilla was “really riled” when Andrew cast himself as a noble victim. She was incensed by his pious vow to “put my duty to my family and country first.”
His refusal to admit any wrongdoing in his association with Jeffrey Epstein, alongside an “explosive” 30-year dossier detailing Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s activities spurred the queen to action.

Adding her voice to Prince William’s, who had long advocated for Andrew’s exile, Camilla urged Charles to take decisive action.
IN 2019, Charles encouraged Andrew to appear on BBC’s Newsnight when rumors of his involvement in the Epstein scandal first arose. Unfortunately, that interview was a public relations nightmare. Andrew’s attempts to “clear the air … ended in disaster,” as he declared his innocence and refused to take any accountability.
In 2022, as Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee approached, Charles urged his brother to settle Virginia Giuffre’s sexual assault suit out of court. The then-Prince of Wales and his mother reportedly paid her £12 million (approximately $16.3 million US).
In August 2025, Andrew Lownie released his book Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York. Soon after, Virginia’s posthumous memoir Nobody’s Girl detailed her alleged sexual encounters with the prince when she was just 17. Queen Camilla, a long-time advocate against sexual abuse, we particularly furious.
Newly leaked Epstein documents only fueled the fire. One 2011 email from Andrew to Epstein read, “We are in this together,” and expressed a desire to “play some more soon.”
Even though Charles believed his mother would ‘not ever’ remove Andrew’s title, he was shaken when a protester heckled him. With the monarchy’s reputation at stake, Charles had no choice but to strip his brother of all his royal titles and privileges.
