It’s In Queens! (July 3 to July 9)

Multi-week outdoor music programs kick off in various neighborhoods this week. Ditto for summer camps. Magic, tennis, and nature are ready to dazzle, too. Please read on.

July 3, All-American Magic Show, 2 pm. Magic, live music, balloon artists, face painters, giveaways, and interactive entertainment for all ages. Level 3 between Jamba Juice and Champs, Queens Center, 90-15 Queens Blvd., Elmhurst.

July 3, Free First Friday, 11 am. Admission is free on the first Friday of every month. The Noguchi Museum, 9-01 33rd Rd., Long Island City.

July 4, Harvey Morris and the Deep Cover Groove Band, 8 pm. Celebrate Independence Day with a live performance from Harvey Morris and the Deep Cover Groove Band. Red Wall Art Gallery, Resorts World New York City, 110-00 Rockaway Blvd., South Ozone Park.

July 6, Showstoppers Summer Camp, July 31. Youngsters create and perform a musical play in just two weeks. They write original dialogue and song lyrics, practice acting and singing skills, and learn to work together as an ensemble, all culminating in a performance. July 6, Queens Museum Summer Camp, July 27. A range of week-long workshops designed for young artists (ages 5-13) with specialized sessions tailored to different age groups. Bookmaking, shadow puppets, papier-mâché sculpture, and fashion design are among the options. Queens Museum, NYC Building, Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

July 6, Unisphere Film Festival, July 12. One week. Ten programs. Thirty-six films. Court Square Theater, 44-02 23rd St., Long Island City.

July 7, Ajoyo, 7 pm. The Live at the Gantries Summer Concert Series opens with Ajoyo, a collective that blends North and West African traditions with Jazz and Soul. Free. Gantry Plaza State Park, Long Island City.

July 7, Live Vinyl, 7 pm. Juniper Park Civic Association’s Summer Concert Series begins with “Ladies who Rocked the 80s.” Juniper Valley Park, vicinity of 80th Street and Juniper Boulevard South, Middle Village.

July 8, US Open Job Fair, 2 pm. Apply for a wide range of positions at the US Open Grand Slam tennis tournament that runs in late August and early September. USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center, Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

July 8, Jazz Jam All Stars, 7 pm. The Jazz Jam happens monthly. This concert features 10 musicians chosen by Jazz Jam regulars. They include Angela Arthur (vocals), Richard Braithwaite (tenor sax), Gary Davis (guitar, vocals), Richie Desimone (upright bass), Terrence Dove (piano, vocals), Jason Greenberg (piano), Joe Knipes (guitar), Ken Meyer (saxophone), Keeley Mitchell (vocals), and Gerald Thomas (bass/piano/sax). July 8, Lino Guglielmo, 7 pm. A night of live Italian and international music on accordion presented by the Fraternal Society di Canicatti, Federation of Italian American Organizations of Queens, and Provident Bank. Athens Square Park, 30th Street and 30th Avenue, Astoria.

July 8, National Grid Bio Bus, 10 am. The Bio Bus is an all-electric mobile science lab staffed with trained scientists who teach about ecology, biology, and sustainability using interactive lab tools and microscopes. Alley Pond Environmental Center, 229-10 Northern Blvd., Douglaston.

July 9, Itai Kriss & Televana, 7 pm. The Queens Jazz Trail Concert Series kicks off with Grammy-nominated flutist and composer Itai Kriss, founder of the ensemble Telavana, which plays rhythm-driven music that connects the sounds of the Middle East and the Caribbean through Timba, Jazz, Soul, and Global traditions. July 9, Queensboro Dance Festival, 5 pm. A free show with Kingdom Dance Co., Drye/Marinaro Dance Company, Robert Mark Dance, Sheep Meadow Dance Theatre, Allpayana danza tradicional ecuatoriana, Cole Collective, Flamenco Latino, and Neela Zareen. July 9, Untaped: Removing Barriers for Public Space, 2 pm. First, a presentation and panel of community organizers, city agencies, and nonprofit and philanthropic partners on presenting public events featuring Jennifer Hoppa (NYC Parks), Karesia Batan (Queensboro Dance Festival), Andrew Ronan (LaGuardia Performing Arts Center), and Heather Lubov (City Parks Foundation). The moderator is John Surico, a journalist, researcher and educator. Then at 4 pm, the Quarterfinal Soccer Watch Party. Culture Lab LIC, 5-25 46th Ave.
