CONEY ISLAND — A MAN WAS SHOT and killed near the Coney Island Boardwalk Wednesday morning around 9:23 a.m., according to the New York Police Department, who identified the victim as Bedford-Stuyvesant resident Truron Roachmartin, 24. 

Police said they responded to a 911 call of a person shot in the vicinity of West 28th Street and Surf Avenue. Upon arrival, the officers were told that the victim had sustained gunshot wounds to the face and chest after being shot by an unidentified individual, who then fled eastbound on West 28th Street toward Mermaid Avenue. 

Emergency Medical Services transported Roachmartin to NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased. There are no arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.
