NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – Mayor Zohran Mamdani has reached an agreement with the City Council on a $125.8 billion budget – but it wasn’t without disagreement.
City Council Speaker Julie Menin joins PIX on Politics with Dan Mannarino to discuss the budget deal and major sticking points, including City FHEPS vouchers.
The Mamdani administration has agreed to settle the lawsuit over eligibility expansion for the voucher program, and the City Council has created a new alternative through legislation, Menin said.
“We did not give anything up,” Menin said of the council’s negotiations with the mayor. “He was adamant [on City FHEPS]. … I held the line, and I got the council united on this fight.”
It’s a slightly bigger budget than the mayor’s proposed executive budget, which came in at $124.7 billion. The mayor must get the City Council’s approval to pass a final budget.
