1. Cheers and jeers for mayor’s reversal on NYPD headcount
Last month, Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he planned to boost the NYPD’s headcount by 580 officers in order to staff a new Bronx borough command and to support added officer training.
But in this week’s final budget deal, the plan was scrapped.
2. Summer Rising underway for NYC middle, elementary school students

3. NYPD presence to increase for Fourth of July weekend
Mayor Zohran Mamdani and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch held a news conference yesterday to discuss security measures being taken to protect New Yorkers during the Fourth of July weekend.
“At this time there are no specific and credible threats, and we are taking every possible precaution,” Mamdani said.
