The city of Albany is set to open its public pools for the season on Saturday, including the new Albany West Pool on Livingston Avenue.
The Albany West Pool completes the more than $20 million Albany West Community Center project that broke ground in December 2024, and was made possible through federal, state and local funding.
Assemblymember Gabriella Romero on Thursday announced $300,000 in funding to support pool staffing and the city’s aquatics program.
The Albany West Pool is one of four community pools in the city. The other three are the Arbor Hill, Lincoln Park and Mater Cristi pools. All are open from 1-7 p.m. seven days a week.
“When young people have a safe and structured place to recreate and enjoy, it cuts down and reduces violence significantly. And so it’s so great to be able to have this resource in our city,” Albany Mayor Dorcey Applyrs said.
