A cleaning crew discovered a man’s body stuffed inside a couch Thursday morning at an apartment building in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, police said.
The cleaners made the grim find at a building on Union Street near Utica Avenue that includes units for the mentally disabled, the Daily News reported.
Police were called to the scene around 8:50 a.m. after someone reported a burglary, but that initial call came from a person who mistook the cleaning crew for intruders and did not know they were scheduled to arrive, according to police.
Officers left the scene after determining there was no burglary. They returned 30 minutes later when the cleaning crew discovered the body of an adult man concealed inside the couch.
The city Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause and time of death, while police are working to identify the victim.
