GRANBY, N.Y. — One person was killed after they crashed their electric scooter, the New York State Police said.
Around 7 a.m. on July, troopers responded to State Route 48 at Melrose Avenue in the Town of Granby for a report of the crash. The report said only the stand-up electric scooter was involved.
A preliminary investigation determined that a 31-year-old man was rider the scooter northbound on State Route 48 when he failed to negotiate a turn, went onto the eastern shoulder and struck a utility pole.
The state police said he was alert when emergency crews first responded. It was initially believed that he sustained non-life-threatening injuries. However, the police said he was to Oswego Hospital and died. It’s believed he sustained fatal internal injuries.
The police noted that he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. However, the helmet became dislodged during the collision with the utility pole.
An autopsy will be conducted by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine how he died.
His name was not released.
