Notify NYC warns of life-threatening rip currents at Brooklyn and Queens beaches July 1, urging swimmers to stay out of red-flagged areas without lifeguards.
Notify NYC issued a warning June 30 about life-threatening rip currents likely at surf zones across Brooklyn and Queens from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM on July 1, according to an alert forwarded by Community Board BK01.
Notify NYC says rip currents “can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water” and urges people not to swim at red-flagged beaches where a lifeguard is not present.
If caught in a rip current, the alert says not to swim directly against the current. Instead, Notify NYC recommends relaxing and floating, or swimming parallel to the shoreline if possible, until you’re clear of the current.
