NEW YORK (WFMZ-TV) — Swifties have been outside Madison Square Garden for hours, trying to get a glimpse of the closest thing the U.S. has had to a royal wedding.
“I’m just so happy to be around love,” said Sarah Hopkin.
The multi-day celebration of America’s pop princess and her football-champion fiancé is closing several blocks in the heart of midtown Manhattan. A city permit shows the main event was set to start at 5:30 p.m., with festivities locked in until 4:00 a.m. Saturday.
“It’s just crazy down here,” said Emma Mason.
Some fans traveled across the country in hopes of catching a fleeting glimpse of their idol. Sarah Hopkin came all the way from Oregon for the big day.
“I couldn’t be more grateful to be here today. I flew in just for this. I have such hope for this couple. They’re real,” said Hopkin.
Hopkin says she’s thrilled the pop star has finally found her “happily ever after.” Kristina Bercka came with her brother from New Jersey, saying she’ll happily brave the extreme heat wave just to celebrate.
“She deserves it. And honestly, every heartache and horrible man has led her to Travis and her happily ever after,” said Bercka.
Even if they can’t see past the heavy security gates, these fans say just sharing the air on her big day makes it all worth it.
“It’s amazing. I just feel like I’ve watched her grow up, in a sense, through her music—and to see her get her happy ending,” said Leah Moss.
