America’s 250th anniversary is being celebrated on both land and sea on Saturday with Sail4th 250, a parade of antique and modern ships that traversed New York Harbor and the Hudson River.
The parade kicked off at 9:30 a.m. Over 40 ships from 22 countries made their way from Sandy Hook to the Verrazano Bridge and up to the George Washington Bridge.

Over 40 ships from 22 countries made their way from Sandy Hook to the Verrazano Bridge and up to the George Washington Bridge
The ships range in size, some as tall as over 160 feet to 300 feet, with two to three masts.
The U.S. Navy also hosted a separate but overlapping event, billed as the International Naval Review 250. It featured dozens of military ships and aircraft, including the U.S.S. Arlington, which has been in New York City since Wednesday.
The parade was held in New York because the city was the nation’s first capital. Vessels will spend about a week in the city afterwards.
U.S. vessels that took take part include the USCGC Eagle and others. Some countries that the other boats hail from included Sweden, Italy, Argentina, India and Poland.
