While Charlotte remains under water use restrictions during a persistent drought, residents are asked to take additional steps to curb use after a break in a main.
Charlotte Water on Friday afternoon announced the closure of Queens Road in the 1000 block in the Myers Park area to fix the damaged pipe.
Late Friday night, officials with the utility asked residents to cut back on water use, including outdoor irrigation, and said those in south Charlotte might notice a small change in pressure.
“Conservation efforts will help maintain adequate water pressure throughout the system and ensure reliable service for all customers,” the utility said.
Crews continued working Saturday to isolate the damaged part of the pipe.
The city and other municipalities imposed water restrictions in April as hot and dry conditions intensified across much of the state. As of July 2, most of North Carolina remained in drought, with the northern Piedmont most severely affected.
Charlotte since May 15 has been at stage 2 mandatory water restrictions, which limit lawn watering to twice a week and ban some non-essential uses.
