CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (WABC) — A Bronx mother is devastated after her 16-year-old son was shot dead while visiting friends in Brooklyn on Saturday night.

Tyson “TJ” Harps was shot in the head around 8:45 Saturday evening in front of an apartment building on Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights, according to police, who say they have no motive for the crime, and the victim has no criminal record.

“My son was amazing. My son was into sports. He got into a great school that he loved, that had everything he wanted to do and be in life,” the boy’s mother, who did not want to be identified, said. “I could just try to move forward. I don’t know how, but I would try for my son.”

Tyson’s mother, who calls herself “overprotective,” says he had gone to Brooklyn from the family’s home in the Bronx to see friends, and she had been texting with him shortly before he was shot.

A resident of the apartment said he heard eight shots ring out.

His mother says her only thought was her son as she raced from the Bronx to Brooklyn to be by his side.

“I sat and watched my son lying there for hours before being picked up, and I felt that my son felt alone. My son doesn’t even know that I ran to his side,” she said.

Police are seeking a male wearing a dark, hooded jacket.

The family is asking anyone who knows anything to come forward.
