Special request to curb water use lifted in Charlotte

Charlotte’s water utility has lifted an emergency conservation request that was prompted by a break in a main last week in Myers Park.

Charlotte Water said Sunday night that repairs were finished on one of the mains along Queens Road after crews worked around the clock since Friday.

“Thank you to everyone who conserved water while our crews worked,” Charlotte Water said on X.

The utility had asked all customers to curb water use and to halt outdoor irrigation to help maintain pressure while the damaged main was being fixed.

Detours remain in place while other repairs are underway, and the utility reminds residents that the city is still under water use restrictions because of widespread drought that affects much of North Carolina.

Charlotte has been at stage 2 mandatory water restrictions, which limit lawn watering to twice a week and ban some non-essential uses, since May 15.

Queens Road is closed at Queens Road West, the utility said.
