3 New Yorkers died from heat-related illness, officials say

Three New Yorkers died from heat-related illness during last week’s heat wave, Joe Calvello, spokesperson for Mayor Zohran Mamdani, confirmed in a statement.

“All three passed away in their homes over the weekend. Our hearts are with their families and loved ones,” Calvello said.

Roughly 500 New Yorkers die from heat-related illness every year, according to city officials. 

Temperatures topped 90 degrees for four consecutive days from Wednesday through Saturday last week.

On Thursday, temperatures hit 100 degrees in Central Park for the first time since 2012.
