Last week, Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente announced that the county is proposing a ban on kratom and kratom-derived products.
Kratom originated as a plant in Southeast Asia, with effects similar to opioids or stimulants depending on the dose taken.
There are now other products on the market derived from Kratom that are substantially more potent, but just as easily accessible.
Kratom and related products have not been approved by the Federal Food and Drug Administration for medical use, and concerns are rising about the potential abuse factor and health impacts.
