Dust off your coat of many colors, because the Dolly Parton biomusical Dolly: A True Original Musical is officially coming to Broadway. Performances will begin December 7 at the St. James Theatre, currently home to Titaníque. Dolly will mark Parton’s 81st birthday by holding its Broadway opening the same night, January 19, 2027.

Tickets will go on sale for Dolly fans and eligible Capital One cardholders beginning July 8 at 10 AM ET at DollyMusical.com. General sales will follow July 10 at 10 AM ET.

“My whole life has been a musical. A grand ole opera really and I can’t wait to present it to you on Broadway,” says Parton in a statement. “I hope you enjoy watching as much as I’ve enjoyed livin’ it.”

What we don’t yet know is who will be starring. All casting—by Jim Carnahan and Carrie Gardner—is to be announced. The musical’s world premiere in Nashville last year split the role into three, each tackling a different era of the 11-time Grammy winner’s life. Tony winner Bartlett Sher will direct the Broadway bow after helming the world premiere. The musical features a book by Parton and Maria S. Schlatter, to a soundtrack of some of Parton’s greatest hits and completely new tunes.

Dolly is Parton’s second musical theatre outing, after penning the original score to 2009’s 9 to 5. The musical was based on the film of the same name, which co-stars Parton and featured her chart-topping hit title song (which also appears in the musical version).

“During our world premiere in Nashville, I was overwhelmed by the deep connection audiences have with Dolly. You mention her name and people light up and share a time that she has inspired them and brought them joy,” says Sher. “But despite all of that genuine love, Dolly has never really shared her story before. She’s offered glimpses and peeks, but this musical allows her to reveal the unfiltered story in her own words. As we prepare to come to Broadway, we’re thrilled to show that rhinestones were never her whole story.”

Parton has assembled much of her longtime music team for bringing her story to Broadway, including Richard Dennison, Parton’s background vocal arranger since 1975; and former band leader Gregg Perry, both as vocal and music arrangers. Stephen Oremus is newly serving as music supervisor, with Charity Wicks as music director. Orchestrations will be by John Clancy, with Kent Wells serving as a music consultant.

The production will also feature choreography by Mandy Moore, scenic design by Derek McLane, costume design by Jennifer Moeller, lighting design by Donald Holder, sound design by Peter Hylenski, video design by Nathan Amzi and Joe Ransom, hair design by Robert Pickens, and makeup design by Studio Pickens. Michael J. Passaro will serve as production stage manager.

Parton, Danny Nozell, Adam Speers for ATG Productions, and Gavin Kalin Productions are producing. 101 Productions, Ltd. will serve as general managers.
