STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Tuesday that seven bridges across New York will face trailer bans during a storm forecast to bring strong winds to the state Wednesday into Thursday.
As noted in a press release from Hochul’s office, MTA Bridges and Tunnels will prohibit empty tractor-trailers and tandem (piggyback, dual, triple, etc.) trucks from crossing its seven bridges from 8 a.m. Wednesday through 4 a.m. Thursday.
Here are the bridges slated for prohibitions:

“Our state agencies and thousands of utility workers stand ready to assist New Yorkers as strong-to-severe wind gusts and potential thunderstorms impact much of the state starting Wednesday,” Hochul said. “I urge all New Yorkers to stay vigilant and remain alert — text your county or borough name to 333111 to get the most up-to-date information sent directly to your phone.”
In addition to announcing the bans, Hochul also urged residents to take precautions as the storm is forecast to bring widespread gusty winds, rain and thunderstorms to parts of the state.
The most severe storms are expected to potentially impact the Finger Lakes, Southern Tier, Central New York and Mohawk Valley regions, as noted by Hochul’s office. At elevations above 1,500 feet, rain may transition to snow.
Wind appears to be the primary concern for New York City.
As of Tuesday, forecasts indicate widespread gusts will reach 40-50 mph; some isolated wind gusts could even peak at 60-70 mph, according to Hochul’s office.
In anticipation of these gusts, the National Weather Service issued a high wind watch for New York City and much of upstate New York.
Given these winds, there is a risk of power outages and toppled trees.
