Wolcott, N.Y. — A delivery driver died after suffering head injuries while trying to regain control of a delivery van as it rolled toward a home in Wayne County, according to New York State Police.

Troopers responded to the home on Eades Road in Wolcott at 8:29 p.m. Monday. Police said the driver pulled into the driveway and got out of the van to retrieve packages from the cargo area when the van began rolling forward.

Witnesses reported yelling to alert the driver that the van was moving. The driver attempted to stop the vehicle before it struck the residence but lost his footing and became pinned between the moving van and a porch support, suffering severe head injuries.

Police said bystanders moved the van off the victim and provided aid until first responders arrived. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released.
