NEW YORK (TNND) — Eight people were safely rescued Sunday after a seaplane was forced to make an emergency landing on New York’s East River, according to the New York City Fire Department (FDNY).
FDNY officials told multiple outlets that at least two people suffered minor injuries and were treated by emergency personnel. The plane was later towed back to the dock.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the pilot of a Kodiak 100 declared an emergency before making a hard landing near Brooklyn around noon, causing one of the aircraft’s wing struts to snap.
An air traffic control recording released by ATC.com captured the pilot issuing a Mayday distress call before landing on the river.
Video of the incident showed the plane floating upright in the water with its left wing partially submerged.
