Buffalo’s finance commissioner will resign next month.
Jessica Brown, the city’s commissioner of administration and finance, has submitted her resignation, which will go into effect on August 4.
Her last working day was July 6.
The city did not give a reason for Brown’s resignation, but wished her the best and thanked her for her service.
“Jessica Brown has resigned from her position as commissioner of administration and finance, effective August 4, with her last working day being Monday, July 6. Budget Director Saran Askew will serve as acting commissioner during the transition period, and the administration will be announcing a new commissioner of administration and finance shortly,” the city said in a statement.
“We thank Commissioner Brown for her service to the city of Buffalo during a period of extraordinary financial uncertainty. Her tremendous work ethic and commitment to the city was invaluable as we prepared and announced the 2026-2027 Budget and Four-Year Plan. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”
The city says it plans to announce a new commissioner soon. Budget Director Saran Askew will serve as acting commissioner during the transition.
