Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Wednesday said there had been “no additional movement of the structure since yesterday morning” at an unstable building in Midtown Manhattan.
“As of 8:30 a.m. this morning, temporary shoring and beams have been completely installed on floors 18 through 23, and additional ensuring beams will be added throughout the day,” Mamdani said.

A frozen zone was installed in the blocks around the building, prohibiting pedestrians and traffic from entering the area. The size of the frozen zone was reduced Tuesday afternoon, city officials said.
The building, which was formerly Pfizer’s headquarters, is being converted into residential apartments, a conversion strategy that the mayor said he still supports.
“I do continue to consider the conversion of office space into residential space as part of our answer to the housing crisis. I also consider that we have to do so safely and in a way that is fully accountable,” the mayor said.
Mamdani said the Department of Buildings will be assessing the structure and is on site.
Several other buildings in the area were evacuated Tuesday morning in the immediate aftermath. The mayor said Wednesday that four buildings in the area remain fully vacated, and that one other building is partially vacated.
