Red Deer Polytechnic has named Devin Simon as the new head coach of its Queens Soccer and Futsal programs, beginning with the 2026-27 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference season.

Simon joins the Queens after gaining coaching experience in the ACAC as an assistant coach with the Olds College Broncos men’s and women’s soccer teams. He also competed in the conference as a student-athlete with the Medicine Hat College Rattlers men’s soccer program.

Ten years of coaching

“We’re excited to welcome Devin as the new head coach of Queens Soccer and Futsal programs,” said Randy Stewart, manager of Athletics and Student Life at Red Deer Polytechnic. “With more than 10 years of coaching experience, Devin is skilled at supporting student-athletes holistically while balancing high-performance expectations with academic success and individual growth. His values of patience, purpose, value, confidence and bravery help shape how he builds team culture and develops student-athletes.”

Simon has also been active in youth soccer in central Alberta. Most recently, he served as Girls Director and Head Goalkeeper Coach with SC Central, overseeing the female development pathway from the under-9 to under-19 levels. During his time with the club, he led female-focused initiatives, including the She Can Play program and development camps aimed at building confidence and leadership skills among young athletes.

He holds a Concacaf B Diploma and a National Goalkeeping Diploma, credentials focused on player development and coaching at the youth and senior amateur levels.

Excited for new opportunities

“I’m incredibly excited to begin this new chapter with a program that has such a proud tradition of success, while contributing to an athletics department that is driven by innovation and a commitment to competing at the highest levels,” Simon said.

“In my first season, my focus will be on creating an environment where student-athletes can thrive on and off the field. I also want to expand the Queens’ footprint throughout central Alberta by building meaningful connections within our community and inspiring the next generation of female athletes.”
